Cupcake Pairings

Image
So, for those of you who don't know, my parents own and run their own business and every summer they have a company barbecue with everyone (it's between 11-17 people). This year they've asked me to bake mini cupcakes for the event (with appropriate compensation, of course :P). Well, the party is this Saturday and the cupcakes are made! They let me choose the flavors knowing they'd be delicious no matter what so I decided to go with a past favorite and something new Introducing: Mocha Cupcakes with Espresso Buttercream Frosting (in rosettes, naturally). When I first made this cupcakes I didn't like coffee (I know drink it with chai tea latte mix as creamer) but I still found these addicting! The cake itself is really just a rich chocolate cake enhanced with coffee that you can't really taste. They smell absolutely amazing when they come out of the oven! The frosting is what gets me, though. It's a simple buttercream with vanilla and instant espre...

Baking Hiatus

Hi, everyone! Sorry for not posting in a while; I've been really busy recently. As you know from my blog title I'm headed to college soon and I've been working a lot trying to earn money for tuition. Between that and trying to get everything ready for me to leave I have much less free time than I anticipated. I haven't baked anything recently (except my grad party cake which I forgot to document....) but I wanted to update y'all on what's been going on. I had my graduation party on the first and It was so amazing to see everyone who came. I made quite a few friends of the underclassmen in choir (especially Bel Canto) and I'm really going to miss them. And, as always, it was great to see so much of my extended family (shout out to my cousin Elizabeth 💖) Anyway, the cake was a new recipe I hadn't tried yet, but it was really similar to the yellow cake I've done in the past (although I liked this one better). It was a white vanilla cake with...

Yellow Cupcakes and Family

Father's Day has always been a very special holiday for me. While I love both of my parents very much, I've always had a special connection with my dad, as many daughters do. This year was extra special because we got to celebrate with my half-sister, Cassie, whom I had never met before. The day started out with everyone, I think, feeling a little wary, but that feeling quickly faded as we all fell into continuous laughter at each other's stories. Needless to say, it was a good day, made even better, by cupcakes. When I told Cassie I loved to bake we quickly decided to bake cupcakes while she was here. It took me a while to decide what we should bake, but I soon decided on yellow cupcakes. The recipe is slightly adapted from a favorite recipe of mine (found here ) for perfect yellow cake. It's absolutely wonderful, soft, melt-in-your-mouth, delicious cake, but I had never used it to make cupcakes. The baking itself isn't difficult. The recipe does call f...

Fresh Cookies, Fresh Start

Cookies are a wonderful thing, aren't they? There are so many ways to make even the most common Chocolate chip cookie. They can be cakey and soft, or sweet and crisp; you can make them big or small; thick or thin, eat them fresh out of the oven (or even before you put them in!). The point is, there really isn't a right  way to make a cookie. Each person has their own preference and that's okay. So, my name is Hannah, and I'm an aspiring baker. (I realize the irony of this with the popularity of 13 Reasons Why). My dream is to open my own cake shop with my best friend, Echo, and share my passion and delicious cakes with the world! Now, I realize what I've made today is not cake, but cookies, but I like cookies, too, so.... I live in the Pacific Northwest, where the trees are green and rain falls often. I'm the youngest of two in a family of four and we all live together with our Beagle, Lucy. I graduated high school 5 days ago and my summer is off to the r...
